Like other Caribbean islands, the island of Dominica – located between Guadeloupe and Martinique – has decided not to take risks with the SARS COV2 virus. Between February 2 and 15, 2022, 1,282 cases of Covid-19 were reported in the “island of 365 rivers” with a population of 72,226. To date, 29,251 people are fully vaccinated against the disease, representing 40.6% of the population.

As a result, the Government of Dominica has granted permission for special entertainment events to take place between February 20 – March 1, 2022 in lieu of Carnival activities as we know it. All of these events have been scheduled to take place at one venue – the Windsor Park Sports Stadium – so no parades in the streets of Roseau, the capital, or elsewhere.
