The prestigious event will be held from July 14 to 16, 2026, in Colombia.
Renowned Dominican saxophonist Nayade Macea will be the first Dominican saxophonist to perform at the prestigious MedeSax International Saxophone Festival, which will take place from July 14 to 16, 2026, in Colombia.
At this event, which brings together saxophonists from around the world to share their experiences, Nayade will not only take part in a major concert but she will also lead two masterclasses at the University of Antioquia and in the city of Medellín.
“I’m very excited to be able to live this enriching experience alongside great international talents. The master class I’ll lead will focus on the saxophone in Dominican merengue, and I’ll perform at the opening concert. I’ll also visit a school that can’t afford to register for the festival and share my knowledge with them in the same context”, explained Macea.
The saxophonist is currently working on the production of her first instrumental album, in collaboration with renowned arrangers such as Manuel Tejada, Janina Rosado, and Antonio González, among others. In this project, she continues to explore the richness of Dominican music and its fusion with jazz and other contemporary genres.
Nayade holds a bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Music and a master’s degree in Music Education.
Her academic training allowed her to deepen the study of Dominican music, its Caribbean roots, and the fundamental role the saxophone has played in merengue and its historical evolution.
She had the privilege of sharing stages and projects with Dominican artists such as Juan Luis Guerra and Johnny Ventura, as well as with renowned international figures including Richie Ray, Bobby Cruz, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Cimafunk, and many others.
