In a powerful celebration of Caribbean excellence and cultural impact, Shaggy was officially honored with a proclamation declaring May 19 as “Shaggy Day” in Brooklyn by Antonio Reynoso. The special recognition took place during the album signing event for Shaggy’s fifteenth studio album, Lottery, held at I AM CARIBBEING HQ in the heart of Little Caribbean on Nostrand Avenue. The proclamation was formally presented to the Grammy winning reggae icon by Rev. Kim Council, Deputy Borough President of Brooklyn.
Born in Jamaica and raised in Flatbush as a teenager, Shaggy has spent more than four decades shaping the global sound of reggae and dancehall while proudly representing Caribbean culture on the world stage. Beyond music, he continues to make a lasting humanitarian impact through the Shaggy Make a Difference Foundation and numerous charitable initiatives supporting Jamaica and the wider diaspora. The moment served as both a celebration of his new musical chapter and a tribute to the legacy he has built in Brooklyn, the borough that helped launch one of reggae’s most recognizable voices into international superstardom.
