The film event entitled “Director Fits x Metrograph” will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 at the Metrograph In Theater in New York.
Black film pioneer Euzhan Palcy comes to the Metrograph In Theater on April 4 to present two of her famous feature films: “Simeon” (1992) that will be screened at 6:35 pm, while “A Dry White Season” (1989) at 9:15 pm.

While French director – who hails from the town of Gros-Morne in Martinique – has had difficulty gaining recognition in the French film industry, the United States has recognized her professional talents. Today, Euzhan Palcy is the first black director produced by a major Hollywood studio, the first woman and black director to receive a César award for a feature film in Paris, and the first and only woman director of color to receive an honorary Oscar in Los Angeles.

Following each screening, the Caribbean filmmaker will speak with Hagop Kourounian of Director Fits, whose Instagram account, @DirectorFits, explores the personal styles of several filmmakers. Kourounian recently contributed to How Directors Dress (A24 Publishing), a volume dedicated to auteur couture, in which Palcy is a key character. “Euzhan Palcy has dedicated her life to telling complex stories through her films (…) her work, like her personal director uniform, commands your attention”, says Kourounian.
