“Hip-Hop Dance Republica Dominicana” National Championship is back, 6th edition

This year the event has 662 dancers registered with a total of 68 groups from all over the country.

Once again the country’s hip hop dance groups will have the opportunity to demonstrate their potential in the sixth edition of the “Hip-Hop Dance Republica Dominicana” national championship on May 10, 11 and 12 and compete to represent the country internationally.

This year’s event features 662 registered dancers and a total of 68 groups from all over the country, who will compete in the 1 vs.1 Battles, Crews and Megacrews categories to obtain the qualifying pass to the world championship in Phoenix Arizona USA, to be held from August 3 to 10. This year, in addition to the title of national champion, World Battles include RD$75,000 pesos in prizes for the champions.

The competition begins on Friday 10 with the preliminaries at Casa San Pablo, on Saturday 11 the World Battles will be held at Megacentro and on Sunday 12 will be the grand finale at the Salón La Fiesta of the Jaragua Hotel.

“We are very happy to see how each year the crews and dancers community is growing and the event has become a healthy space for family entertainment and the healthy development of children and young people from all over the country. We are very excited to see how young people from different sectors and provinces of the country are working for almost a year in search of becoming national champions, to represent our country at the world championship”, said Alvaro de Oleo, co-director of the event.

The group of international judges who will be responsible for choosing the winners is composed by: Ian Levia, technical director of Hip Hop International, from Trinidad and Tobago; Jaja Leviner from the United States; Giresse Zimmer from Brazil and Larry Olivero, Benny Perez, Marcos Taveras, Joel Cespedes, Cristopher Veloz, JJ Sanchez and Jonathan Graciano from the Dominican Republic.

“Our local judges, are prominent leaders and choreographers of our country, who have prepared not only to qualify national competitors, but also are certified by the institution of Hip Hop International Los Angeles, to do so internationally, so we have a large group of professionals capable of doing a great job”, stressed Larybel Olivero, co-director of the event.
