One of the Caribbean’s major film festivals – the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) – opens its doors this Sunday, December 7. Two venues have been chosen to host the screening of 28 films from 12 different countries offered to the public: Nassau from December 7 to 11 and Harbour Island from December 11 to 14.
This year’s opening film will be “The Dutchman” by director André Gaines, starring André Holland, Kate Mara, and others.
On Monday, December 8, renowned American actor and producer Anthony Mackie (8 Mile, She Hate Me, Notorious, Avengers, Captain America, etc.) will receive the Sidney Poitier Tribute Award. The ceremony will be followed by the screening of the film “Desert Warrior” (2025), directed by Rupert Wyatt.
As for actor Sawyer Spielberg—son of Steven Spielberg – (Materialists, Pentagon Papers, Christmas at Miller’s Point), he will receive the Shining Star Tribute Award on Tuesday, December 9. The film “Martyr of Gowanus” (2024) by director Brian Meere will then be screened.
Founded by Leslie Vanderpool, the BIFF has become a meeting place for all the Hollywood stars over the years.
