As we all know, the DJ is no longer just the one who puts artists’ records on the turntables since the advent of David Guetta or Bob Sinclar. He wants to be seen as an artist, and even though he often cannot sing or play a musical instrument, he can still release successful albums.
A new DJ has become very popular recently: DJ Kawest (real name Kenny Geneviève), who released his debut album called Hybride on December 6 – produced by Juston Records and distributed by Wagram Music – including some 15 tracks with several collaborations with zouk, kompa, African sounds (soukous, afro beat etc.) and urban music artists.
Also last December, the track n°8 entitled “Tou Sèl” with Mickael Guirand (lead singer of the Haitian group Vyab) has invaded radio, TV and social networks, as the single was released in physical edition in record stores and digital edition on all download platforms. The video, released two weeks ago, has already received over a million views.
Previously, fans have discovered the track n°5 “Dis-Moi”, performed by the very popular Haitian singer right now, Djoé Dwèt Filé. Three months after its launch, the video on youtube has 2.8 million views.
Other tracks like “Elle veut” feat. Inoss B, “Honey” feat. Emma’a or “Kompa Paradise” feat. T Gui & T Will will certainly make the fans in the Caribbean, Africa, France and beyond dance.
Born in 1994 to Guadeloupean parents, DJ Kawest lives in France. He was introduced to music by his father, a percussionist. DJ Kawest first made a name for himself with Internet performances such as “When Haiti meets Angola”, “Last, last” by Burna Boy and “Love Nwantiti” by Ckay. Last May, DJ Kawest presented his album to his public at the Olympia, and in July, he invited them to another Parisian venue, La Cigale.
Unfortunately, when you listen to DJ Kawest’s album, you can hear zouk music, but nowhere is this word mentioned in his press kit…
