Mas Domnik 2021 officially cancelled!

Carnival on the island of Dominica has joined the list of cancelled carnivals for 2021 in the Caribbean and around the world.

On Wednesday, December 2, Dominica’s Minister of Tourism, Denise Charles, announced the cancellation of the 2021 edition of the Dominica Carnival at a press conference in Roseau.

“Fellow Dominicans and patrons, I wish to inform you that after much deliberations and consultation the government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has taken the responsible decision to cancel our annual Carnival, Mas Domnik 2021, she stated.

Mas Domnik was originally scheduled for 15-16 February 2021.

We are aware of the historical, cultural, social and economic relevance of our carnival season however, during this Covid-19 era health and safety continue to be our priorities, she stressed.

On that day the Ministry of Health had registered 5 new cases of Covid-19 bringing the total number of active cases to 13.

Denise Charles added: “As we have been doing in the tourism sector we will continue to use this period to strategize on enhancing on other events and festivals for 2021/2022 and beyond”.
