This exhibition is organized as part of Creole Month from October 3 to 31, 2025, at Foodîles Le Lab (Baie-Mahault) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The opening took place on October 3.
Paying tribute to the hummingbird, this small bird emblematic of the Caribbean, is the objective of this exhibition. Thierry Lima chose to explore the hummingbird’s iridescent feathers, which “reflect light differently depending on the angle, like fragments of memory and identity”. Known in Guadeloupe as “foufou”, this tiny bird is presented as a symbol of energy, fragility, brilliance, and freedom. Guadeloupean visual artist, who graduated from the MJM (a graphic design and illustration school based in Paris) about thirty years ago, takes visitors through his world populated with colorful works, a “sensory and poetic journey”.

Indeed, for this occasion, the “foufou” did not only inspire Thierry Lima. It also gave Guadeloupean poet Didyer Mannette desire to write texts in Creole and French in order to celebrate the prowess and qualities of this local wildlife animal. “Bursts of changing light, carriers of emotion, beauty, or memory. We evoke fleeting moments, sensory impressions, pieces of history or identity that shine differently depending on the angle from which we look at them (…)”, he wrote.

It should be noted that the poems accompanying the paintings can also be listened to through QR codes, and the screening of a video allows a unique immersive experience.
Deeply attached to his culture, Didyer Manette is the author of several collections of poems and the founder of Éditions Nèg Mawon that is intended to promote Caribbean literature.
About the venue where can be seen the exhibition of paintings entitled “Foufou, fragments iridescents” – Foodîles Le Lab – it is innovative. Located in the Jarry industrial zone in the town of Baie-Mahault, it is dedicated to gastronomy and culinary creativity.
