Thursday of Mid Lent is a public holiday in Guadeloupe, administrations, companies and schools stay closed. That day, from the afternoon until late at night, the carnival groups of the island parade through the streets of Basse-Terre, the capital, and Pointe-à-Pitre. Traditionally, the costumes are red and black but, in recent years, some carnival lovers wear other colors.

The crowd of spectators is not as numerous as during the carnival period but the party atmosphere is very present. In addition, this year, the weather was very fine.

The next day, Friday, Lent – this period of abstinence in the Catholic religion – will start again until Easter Sunday.
