Christian Lara, guest of the 12th “Cinéma au clair de lune”

From July 11 to august 1, La Ramée House – Artists’ residence in Sainte-Rose, Guadeloupe, hosts four films by director Christian Lara during the 12th edition of the “Cinéma au Clair de Lune” whose theme is “Passeurs de Mémoire”.

The guest of honour of the cinema meeting is Guadeloupean director, scriptwriter and producer Christian Lara who was born on January 25, 1939 in Basse-Terre and is regarded as the pionneer of the 7th art in the French Caribbean. The theme of this twelfth edition of “Cinéma au Clair de Lune” (Cinema by moonlight) is “Passeurs de Mémoire” (Transmitters of Memory) on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Guadeloupe which was celebrated on May 27. Christian Lara was also present for this commemoration at the Mémorial ACTe where was already screened his feature film, “1802, l’Épopée guadeloupéenne”.

So, during these four Wednesdays (July 11, 18, 25 and August 1), four films will be presented to the audience : “Héritage perdu” (2010), “Le mystère Joséphine” (2009), “1802, l’Épopée guadeloupéenne” (2004) and “Coco La Fleur, Candidat” (1979). After each screening, there will be, for ten minutes, an artistic performance by the Municipal Art School of the town of Sainte-Rose about the songs of the film then, for thirty minutes, a debate on themes like “The Guadeloupean society at the moment of the film”, “The social relations, “The different stages of the production of a film”, “The authenticity of the film in comparison with reality”, “Understanding the importance of the film in the Guadeloupean audiovisual landscape” and “Young people: what place to take in history ?”. Showings on July 11 (film: “Héritage perdu”) and July 18 (film: “Le mystère Joséphine”) will take place in the presence of film director Christian Lara who came from France where he lives to discuss with the audience. These open-air screenings will be free and people are asked to come with their seats
