Soca fans are in heaven. This Friday, September 3, 2021, VP Records released its famous Soca Gold compilation, which represents the best songs of this Caribbean musical genre over the past year.
The 17-track album want to celebrate the “spirit of Carnival”, even though because of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Caribbean islands have cancelled all carnival events. It features – with the collaboration of DJs such as DJ Puffy – Soca stars such as Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin, Iwer George, Edwin Yearwood, Fay-Ann Lyons, Patrice Roberts, Edwin Yearwood and Alison Hinds and many more artists.
Hinds, the world-famous Soca Queen, kicked off this famous compilation with her song “Go Gal”. Natasha Von Castle of VP Records says : “The uptempo song, considered an empowering female anthem joins Soca with an edge of Dancehall. Known for delivering positive messages in her music, “Go Gal” sings of the positive outlook women should have for themselves and each other”.
The Barbadian artist who was born in London 51 years ago performed “Go Gal” at Angela Yee Day in Brooklyn, New York. In addition to this performance, the former Square One singer (1987-2004) participated in The Breakfast Club and becomes the first and only Soca artist to appear on the programme. “Accompanying the release of “Go Gal” is a music video that presents visuals of strong energetic women celebrating their beauty and rhythm“, says Natasha Von Castle. The singer will also perform at New York’s prestigious SummerStage at the Coney Island Amphitheatre on Wednesday 15 September.
Note that the 2021 Soca Gold compilation also features South African artist Master KG with his worldwide hit “Jerusalema”.
