From May 09 to 18, several artists took part in the second edition of the “Créations hybrides” artists’ residency, organized by the Conseil départemental de la Guadeloupe at five sites in the archipelago (Fort Louis Delgrès in Basse-Terre, Fort Fleur d’Épée in Le Gosier, Habitation La Ramée in Sainte-Rose, Beauport in Port-Louis and Habitation Murat in Grand-Bourg, Marie-Galante).
These artists from different disciplines (visual arts, theater, music, dance, singing, etc.) had to work together to present a joint creation at the end of these ten days. During the month of May, the public was invited to each site to discover these “hybrid creations” for free.
The 9 artists in residence at Fort Louis Delgrès will unveil their creation on Saturday May 27, on the occasion of the commemoration of the abolition of slavery in Guadeloupe.
Among them was painter Évanor Ficadière who went back home in 2020 after living and working for several years in the Paris region.
“Taking part in this “Créations hybrides” residency gave me a lot of ideas. I was able to see other horizons and, in terms of creation, I was with hip hop artists so I worked in a short time with spray paint, it’s a technique I knew but wasn’t used to using. People who have already seen what I’ve done have really liked it, and I think I will integrate this type of work into my production”, said the native of Capesterre Belle-Eau.
The team is currently rehearsing the show it will offer to the many spectators on the night of May 27.
